READ VERSES 1-26

Verses 1-5

Did Jesus bow his head and close his eyes to pray? (V1) Should we follow his example? See John 11:41. Psalm 123:1.

What was special about the timing of the prayer?

To whom did he pray? (V1) What/whom did he pray for? Can we pray like this?

How did God regard Jesus? V2. If he had such authority why did he need to pray at all?

Who grants eternal life? V2.  Who gets it? How is it described in V3?

How did he finish the work God gave Jesus? See John 19:30.

How was V5 answered? See Acts 4:10. Romans 6:9. Revelation 5:9-14. John 1:1-3.

Verses 6-8

Who did Jesus pray for next? V6-8.

Where did they come from? How did they get there? 

How important is knowledge, words, belief, certainty in these verses?

Verses 9-10

Who did Jesus NOT pray for? See V9. Who does this include? Did he never pray for these people? See John 3:16-18. John 8:42-44.

Are there ever people we do NOT pray for?

Did glory come to Jesus through those he prayed for? See V10. How? Does this apply to us? See Philippians 1:20. 1 Peter 2:9.

Verses 11-12

What protection did the disciples have? What protection would they get?

(Kept from error; from sin; from hypocrisy; from loss of faith; from disunity. 

By what power? What’s the importance of unity in V11)

How did this work in history?

Does it apply to us?

Verses 13-19

How’s your joy? V13. See Hebrews 12:2. Galatians 5:22.

How is your joy affected by Verse 14?

Who is of the world V14? Who is not of the world V16? Who is sent into the world V18? See 1 John 4:5-6. 2 Peter 2:2-3.

What protection is needed when you are sent into the world (V15)? See 1 John 5:18. Matthew 6:13. Philippians 1:20-26. 2 Corinthians 5:19-20.

What keeps you sanctified (made holy; officially acceptable) V17? See Ephesians 6:10-20.

Verses 20-23

Who does Jesus pray for in Verse 20? Does this include you and me? 

What does it mean that all of them may be one V21? 

How close does Jesus want us to be V22-23? See 1 Corinthians 12:12. Colossians 3:11-14. John 13:35.

How does V22 work out? Is it in Verse 23? See John 13:35. 2 Corinthians 3:18. Mark 16:17-20.

Verses 24-26
